Turkish TikTok influencer Kubra Aykut, famous for her viral “Wedding without a Groom” videos, died by suicide at the age of 26 in Istanbul. Reports from Turkish media indicate that Aykut fell from the fifth floor of a luxury apartment building in Sultanbeyli district.
The incident took place on September 23 and authorities discovered a suicide note at the scene.
In the days prior to her suicide, many fans expressed concern over Kubra’s social media posts, which appeared increasingly troubling. Just hours before her death, she shared a poignant letter discussing her struggles with weight gain on her account.
“I’ve gathered my energy, but I can’t seem to gain weight. I lose a kilogram every day. I don’t know what to do; I urgently need to gain weight,” she said in her last post.
In her last TikTok video, shortly before her suicide, Kubra was seen cleaning her house.
Notably, Aykut had one million followers on her TikTok account and 2,07,000 followers on her Instagram account.
Kubra gained significant popularity on TikTok in 2023 with her unique and empowering “Wedding without a Groom” series. In a striking gesture, she symbolically “married” herself, donning a beautiful white gown and tiara while proclaiming, “I can’t find a worthy groom for myself”.
In another video, Kubra was captured driving away in a car, bouquet in hand, and cheering joyfully. In a separate viral clip, she humorously indulged in a burger while still dressed in her wedding attire, playfully calling herself a “nervous bride.”
Turkish authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Aykut’s death, and her body is currently undergoing a post-mortem examination. Her funeral will take place in her hometown, where her parents live, and is expected to be attended by several fellow TikTok influencers who will come to pay their respects.
